It all started with volunteering with Friends of Urban Forest. They plant and care for SF streets, trees, and sidewalk gardens

As we fixed up the trees and planted a few more, many passerby would stop by, wave, ask questions, and just stand around and watch us work - it was like they were seeking connection with our leafy pals.

What if these people could connect further? What if the plants on the streets can tell them a story or what they feel?

There are so many languages we know; maybe there is one more that we could learn. What if we understood the language of plants? What if a passerby can listen in to a tune of sunlight to brighten their day?

The Tech Hammer

If you are growing up in the Bay Area, you look at the world through a tech hammer. How could you use tech to nail this?

A bit of reading up helped me know that plants indeed have a language, but they don't talk - they whisper. And their whisper is very soft - 0.005–5 mV. Compare that to the WiFi in your home, which is around 500 mV

So how do you give a voice to our green friends? How do you have them heard?

Where is the loudspeaker?
